ABOUT US
During the spring semester of 2000 on the campus of Florida A&M University, a group of students led by William Johnson, a freshman Mechanical Engineering major, and Darren Beneby, a junior criminal justice major, began working on a Florida A&M Chapter of Progressive Black Men. The idea was sparked by Johnson, who had the joined the Florida State Chapter. In the fall of 2000, a group of interested gentlemen formed on the campus of Florida A&M University. They began doing community service for March of Dimes, Walk America, Sickle Cell Foundation, and the American Heart Association. They also began fundraising by doing car washes, working at the Career Fair, and holding raffles for the campus. They made their presence on campus known by telling students and other organizations purpose/goals of Progressive Black Men, Inc.
On October 21, 2000 the "Founding Class" of the Florida A&M University Chapter of Progressive Black Men, Inc. was inducted into the organization. There were the 22 founders of the FAMU Chapter. During the spring 2001 semester, The Florida A&M Chapter of Progressive Black Men, Inc. continued their community service efforts. They volunteered for the March of Dimes, volunteered at Miracle Hill Retirement Home, and started a mentoring group at Leon County High School. Since then, the Florida A&M University Chapter of Progressive Black Men has successfully inducted twelve classes including the founding class to continue on the legacy and efforts of the organization.
